John is passionate about equipping educational leaders to build thriving school cultures.

Dr. John Palan is a respected educational leader with more than 21 years of superintendent experience, most recently serving for 15 years as Superintendent of Grant Park School District #6 in Grant Park, Illinois. Throughout his career, Dr. Palan built a reputation for executive leadership, fostering strong board-superintendent relationships, and creating high-performing school cultures rooted in collaboration, accountability, and student success.


During his tenure at Grant Park, Dr. Palan led the district through a period of sustained academic excellence while strengthening relationships among staff, students, administrators, and the Board of Education. Under his leadership, the district received numerous recognitions at the local, state, and national levels. In 2026, his peers honored him with the prestigious “Superintendent of Distinction/Year” award through the Three Rivers Division in recognition of his leadership, dedication, and service to students and staff.


In addition to his district leadership experience, Dr. Palan served on the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA) Board of Directors after being appointed by his regional colleagues in 2022. He also chaired the State Professional Development Committee and contributed to multiple statewide leadership initiatives focused on developing current and aspiring superintendents throughout Illinois. Dr. Palan additionally served as a consultant with the Illinois Principals Association (IPA), mentoring first and second year principals and supporting leadership development across the state.


A frequent presenter at educational conferences, Dr. Palan has spoken on topics including superintendent and board relationships, leadership and culture, and building strong community engagement strategies to support public education. He is passionate about helping leaders cultivate cultures of excellence, strengthen organizational trust, and create environments where people thrive. Dr. Palan believes that effective leadership has a tremendous impact on the culture of a school system and that future leaders should be equipped with every tool possible to best support both students and staff.


Dr. Palan is excited to continue supporting educational leaders through his work with Plasticity Boom, helping districts and schools strengthen culture, improve engagement, and develop leadership strategies that fuel long-term success.


Dr. Palan resides in Grant Park, Illinois, with his wife, Lee Ellen. Together, they have three children, Elle (Ashton) Loitz, Daniel (Hadleigh) Palan, and David (Dana) Palan, and one incredible grandchild, Leighton.
